Highway Safety Committee Helping Solve Traffic Issues
In the fall of 2008, Clifton Park Town Supervisor Philip Barrett established the Town of Clifton Park Highway Safety Committee. As the town has grown, so have the highway safety challenges presented by increased numbers of vehicles and peak-hour traffic concerns.
Co-Chaired by Tom Werner and Jim Fitzgerald, the all-volunteer Highway Safety Committee is composed of a very talented cross-section of town residents who have deep experience in traffic engineering, transportation, and safety issues. They are now actively engaged in analyzing and reviewing potential highway and road improvements throughout our Town to help improve traffic flow and address safety concerns. Included in this review are upgrades along the Route 146 Rexford Corridor near Riverview Road, traffic and pedestrian improvements in the Exit 9 area, and a variety of local issues along roadways including Boyack and Clifton Park Center Roads.
The Committee routinely meets with representatives from the NY State DOT, Saratoga County Sheriff's Department, NY State Police, and other Town Hall officials including the Highway Superintendent and Planning Director. They also communicate with residents and neighborhood associations to make sure all concerns are heard and understood.
